fwbd5,08, Ponte di Mezzo, oil on canvas, 60×60 cm. From the same point of view, close to the Piazza Solferino. I looked into the direction of the buildings opposite the pier. I did some sketches of the buildings at daylight. One of the first paintings that I worked on after my trip to Pisa was the one with Ponte di Mezzo.  What I found quite remarkable about the bridge, which is named after the “Conte Ugolino”, is the addition “di Mezzo”. Whether this bridge really is exactly in the center of Pisa, which would be a possible translation, or if something different is meant by “di Mezzo” is unclear. In any case it is a centrally located bridge that connects the Piazza XX Settembre with the northerly part of the city center Piazza Garibaldi. Starting at our accommodation I took a stroll to “Ponte Solferino in order to do some sketched during daylight. Exactly after “Ponte di Mezzo” the path of the river Arno slightly turns and one can see the buildings on the sides of the river directly in front of oneself. It looks like the river ends right in front of the houses. This is a picture of Pisa I find particularly distinctive. I used the sketch as the basis for my first painting which I did after the trip to Pisa. Within the second painting which I created from the basis of these sketches from “Ponte die Mezzo I simply left out the bend in the river.
