entstanden 1997. Variationen und Repliken 1998 und 1999
Idee: schlichte, einfache Formen aus meinem unmittelbaren Umraum, die die Wahl des Begriffes „Post-Barock” darstellen: Angeregt wurde ich durch kunsthistorische Deutungen zur holländischen Genre-Malerei des 17. Jahrhunderts. Analog zu den barocken Vanitas-Symbolen steht auf meinem Bild die Kerze im Zentrum: Die dafür gewählten Farben sind jene mit den höchsten Lichtwerten. Mein „Vergänglichkeitssymbol” erscheint also strahlend bunt. Schwarze Kontur und dunkler Unterbau verstärken das Leuchten, begrenzen es aber zugleich. Die Gefäße rechts und links – die Figuren sind im gleichschenkeligen Dreieck als Ausdruck des Harmoniebedürfnisses angeordnet – spielen auf den Wunsch des Aufbewahrens an: Das Gefäß rechts ist ein Behälter für Tintenpatronen (aus dem Supermarkt), symbolisiert das Aufschreiben. Der Topf mit Deckel links, ebenso ein Alltagsgegenstand auf meinem Schreibtisch, enthält Süßigkeiten und steht daher für das Genussbedürfnis. Für das Bild habe ich bewusst die vier Grundfarben plus Schwarz und Weiß gewählt, was für mich eine vereinfachende „Schönheitsformel” ist.

The idea was to use simple forms from my immediate surroundings that depict the term „Post-Baroque“: I was inspired by the art-historical interpretation of the Dutch painters of this genre in the 17th century. Analogous with the baroque symbols of vanity the candle is in the centre of my painting. I chose the colours that have the highest luminous intensity. Thus my „symbol of vanity“ appears shining and colourful. Black outlines and dark background reinforce the shining and at the same time limit it. The vessels on the right and left hand sides, which are arranged in the form of an isosceles triangle to express the need of harmony, allude to the desire for preserving things. The vessel on the right hand side is a container for ink cartridges (bought at a supermarket) and is a symbol of writing and taking something down. The pot with a lid on the left is also an object of everyday usage. The one on my desk contains sweets and therefore symbolises the need of consumption. For this painting I deliberately chose the four primary colours plus black and white which to me is a simplifying „formula of beauty“
