19, Morgen weiß ich mehr, Öl auf Leinwand, 60 x 80 cm, gespachtelt im Mai 2001. Zu manchen Erlebnissen fällt uns nichts anderes mehr ein, als uns darüber mit Sprüchen zu trösten. Über die meisten davon sollte ich nicht weiter nachdenken, da sie dadurch jeglichen Trost-Charakter verlieren. Als Bildtitel klingt „morgen weiß ich mehr“ in jedem Fall besser, als „heute fällt mir nichts mehr ein“. Die Leute reagieren ganz empfindlich auf Bildtitel, und ich selber bekomme jedes Mal ein ärgerliches Kribbeln, wenn ein Maler seine Bilder mit „ohne Titel“ bezeichnet. Ein Bild „ohne Titel“ verdirbt mir das ganze Bild. Das kommt mir vor, wie wenn einer ein Geheimnis vortäuschen muss, um interessanter zu erscheinen als er ist.
19, Tomorrow I will Know More, oil on canvas, 60 cm by 80 cm, made with a spatula in May 2001: There are events and experiences where we cannot think of anything other than aphorisms to draw comfort from. I should not think about them for too long or they will lose their comforting character. “Tomorrow I will know more” anyway sounds much better as a title for a painting than “today I cannot think of anything else”. People react in quite a sensitive way on titles of paintings and I for myself feel an annoyed tingling each time an artist calls his paintings “without name”. A painting “without name” spoils the whole painting to me. It seems to me as if someone had to pretend that there is a secret just to appear more interesting than he is.
19, Domani ne saprò di più, olio su tela, 60 x80 cm, dipinto a spatola nel maggio 2001: in alcune situazioni non ci resta che consolarci con frasi fatte sulle quali però sarebbe meglio non rifletterci troppo se no perdono le qualità consolatorie. Come titolo „Domani ne saprò di più“ suona senz’altro meglio di “ Oggi non mi viene in mente più niente“. La gente reagisce in maniera molto sensibile a titoli e io sono sempre molto irritata se trovo dei quadri „senza titolo“ . Un quadro senza titolo mi rovina tutto il quadro. È come se qualcuno dovesse fingere un segreto per sembrare più interessante di quello che è.
