    fwbd6,22, Chioggia, Calle San Domenico, links, Öl auf Leinwand, 22 x 80 cm, Nur auf einer Seite des Kanals ist ein Gehsteig, auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite sind die Häuser direkt am Wasser. Entlang des Kai gibt es kleine alte Geschäfte. Eines davon führte verschiedene Haushaltsartikel, Fischeri- Zubehör und undefinierbaren Krimskrams. Dort fragte ich, ob sie zufällig Rollen für den Korbeinsatz eines Geschirrspülers hätten. Das nicht, aber der Verkäufer konnte mir genau sagen, wo ich in Chioggia so etwas bekäme, und er blätterte auf seinem Notebook mit Google Earth den Standort des für mich passenden Geschäftes auf und zeigte mir, wie die Fassade aussah und schrieb mir die Adresse auf einen kleinen Zettel.

Alongside the kai there are a number of small old shops. One of them sells household articles, fishing supplies and undefinable odds and ends. There I asked if they have those small rolls for the basket of a dishwashing machine. They didn´t, but the owner could tell me exactly where in Chioggia I could get those. And he showed me the exact location of the store on his notebook and described the facade while writing the address onto a small piece of paper.

Lungo il molo ci sono vecchi negozietti. Uno vendeva diversi articoli per la casa, attrezzi per la pesca e altra roba non specificabile. Chiesi se per caso avessero le rotelle per le ceste della mia lavastoviglie. Purtroppo no, ma il negoziante era in grado di indicarmi dove trovarle a Chioggia. Accese il suo tablet e su google earth trovò la posizione esatta del negozio che faceva per me e mi fece vedere anche la facciata e mi scrisse l’indirizzo su un foglietto di carta.

Einmal spazierten wir über die stufige Brücke Ponte Vigo in die Calle San Domenico, wo wir zuerst die Kirche umrundeten, bevor wir in den Kai einbogen. Von dort ist der Ausblick auf das Wasser des Kanals mit vielen kleinen Booten und einzelnen Gondeln und auf die gebogenen Treppenbrücken ganz ähnlich wie an vielen Stellen in Venedig.

We passed the steps of Ponte Vigo going into the direction of Calle San Domenico, where we first circumnavigated the church before we went to the kai. From here the view onto the water of the canal with its many boats, gondolas and curved bridges is similar to those in Venice.

Una volta andammo attraverso i gradini del Ponte Vigo in Calle San Domenico dove facemmo un giro intorno alla chiesa prima di imboccare il molo. Di lí la vista sull’ acqua nel canale con tante piccole barche e alcune gondole e sui ponticelli arcuati assomiglia molto a certi posti a Venezia.

    fwbd6,20, Chioggia, Sonnenschirme, Öl auf Leinwand, 50 x 70 cm, 2015. Die Sonnenschirme auf dem Strand von Chioggia sind rein fiktiv. Da waren wir am vierten Tag unseres Aufenthalts auf einem anderen Inselabschnitt, der östlich vom zentralen Kanal Vena liegt. An dem Tag war plötzlich Badewetter, und ich musste für Gina mit meiner Jacke einen Sonnenschutz bauen. Einige der Strandbars hatten schon sommerlichen Betrieb und extralaute Musik.

On our fourth day of the trip we´ve been to a part of the island east of the central Canal Vena. On this day we unexpectedly had bathing weather and I had to build a sun protection for Gina with my jacket. Some of the beach bars were already open and had their music turned on full volume.

Il quarto giorno del nostro soggiorno stavamo in un’altra parte dell’isola, a est del canale centrale Vena. Quel giorno il tempo invitava a fare il bagno e dovetti costruire un parasole per Gina con la mia giacca. Alcuni bar lungo la spiaggia erano in pieno modo estivo con musica ultraforte.

    fwbd6,19, Adria, Sonne im Rücken, Öl auf Leinwand, 48 x 86 cm, 2016. Auf der Rückfahrt waren wir wieder in der Stadt Adria. Ich schaute mir den Dom an, der einen sehr großen Vorplatz hat, und innen ganz dunkel ist. In der Nähe gibt es einen kleinen Park mit einem Brunnen, um den Bänke aufgestellt sind. Im Sitzen mit Blick auf die Geschäfte setzte wieder der Hunger ein. Die Bäckerei gegenüber hatte verlockendes österliches Gebäck. Ich kaufte mir einen großen Pan d’Oro, von dem ich, zuerst ein kleines Stück kostete und noch eines, bis es weg war. Ich sah, wie die Bäckerin gerade anfing, die Rollläden herunterzulassen, sprang auf und erreichte sie noch rechtzeitig, mir einen Nachschub zu kaufen.

I took a look at the cathedral with its big forecourt and dark insides. Just around the corner is a small park with a fountain surrounded by some benches. Sitting and looking at the shop I suddenly felt hungry again. The bakery just opposite sold tempting pastries. I bought a big Pan d’Oro, plucking small pieces from it until it was gone. When I saw the shutters closing I ran across the street to get some more just before the shop closed.

    fwbd6,19, Adria, Il Sole alle Spalle, olio su tela, 48 x 86 cm, 2016. Al ritorno ci rifermammo a Adria. Visitai il Duomo che ha una larga piazzetta davanti ed è molto buio dentro. Vicino si trova un piccolo parco con una fontana e delle panchine intorno. Stando seduta lì con i negozi di fronte, mi venne fame. Il forno di fronte aveva delle specialità pasquali deliziose. Mi comprai un gran Pan d’oro, di cui assaggiai prima un pezzetto, poi un altro, finchè era finito. Vidi la fornaia che stava per abbassare le serrande, mi precipitai e la raggiunsi ancora in tempo a fare rifornimento.

    fwbd6,18, Wiese im Licht des Nachmittags. Öl auf Leinwand, 70 x 70 cm, 2017. Für die Menschen hier, dachte ich, ist das wahrscheinlich nichts weiter als irgendeine saure Wiese. Für mich sieht es aus wie ein botanischer Garten, mit lauter mir fremden prächtigen Pflanzen.

    fwbd6,18, Prato alla luce pomeridiana, olio su tela, 70 x 70 cm, 2017. Per la gente del posto, pensai, probabilmente è solo erba qualsiasi su suolo acido. A me sembra un giardino botanico pieno di fantastiche piante esotiche.

    fwbd6,17, Wiese bei klarem Morgenlicht, Öl auf Leinwand, 70 x 70 cm, 2017. Zwischen den großen Feldern waren schmale Gräben zur Bewässerung gezogen. Die einzelnen Höfe waren viele Kilometer voneinander entfernt, und um einen der Höfe standen viele rostige landwirtschaftliche Geräte herum, auch der Traktor war rostig. Vor dem Wohnhaus gab es die gleichen hohen Gräser, die über die ganze Fensterhöhe hinaufragten.

    fwbd6,17, Meadow in clear morning air, oil on canvas, 70 x 70 cm, 2017. Within the huge fields were small trenches for watering. Individual farms were scatter apart; each farm surrounded by rusty agricultural machines. In front of the buildings were high grasses, outgrowing the window sills.

    fwbd6,17, Prato alla chiara luce mattutina, olio su tela, 70 x 70 cm, 2017. Tra i grandi campi c’erano degli stretti fossi di irrigazione. Le varie tenute erano lontane molti chilometri l’una dall’altra e intorno a una delle fattorie c’erano tanti attrezzi agricoli tutti arrugginiti, persino il trattore era arrugginito. Davanti alla casa di abitazione cresceva la stessa erba alta che arrivava fin sopra l’altezza delle finestre.

    fwbd6,16, Pila, Blau Grüne Landschaft mit Blütenstielen vor dem Horizont, Öl auf Holz, 40 x 50 cm, 2016. Unter den üppigen Pflanzen in der Uferlandschaft ragten an vielen Stellen einstielig hochschießende Graspflanzen heraus, deren oberstes Drittel grauviolette Blüten trugen.

    fwd6,15, Pila, Verdeckter Blick zum Wasser. Öl auf Leinwand, 70 x 70 cm, Ich bekam keine rechte Gelegenheit, dort anzuhalten, weil die Fahrer der Lastwägen abwechselnd hupend oder blinkend auf mich zufuhren und mir „via via“ deuteten, sobald ich es versuchte. Susanne war mit ihrer Kamera ausgestiegen, um zu Fuß die Höhe der Anschüttung zu erreichen, für ein Foto vom Wasserspiegel des Po. Ich musste inzwischen stückchenweise weiterfahrend auf der schmalen Schotterstraße verbringen. Sie blieb lange aus, auch auf ein Foto musste ich warten, weil ihr Akku gerade leer geworden war. Jetzt drehten wir um und fuhren in den besiedelten Teil von Pila zurück, wo auf den Straßen wieder niemand zu sehen war.

I didn´t get a chance to stop because the truck drivers constantly honked or flashed the lights at me signing me “via via” and coming my way as soon as I tried to stop the car. Susanne left the car with her camera walking onto the dam to get a picture of the Po River. I had to carry on getting out of the way of the truck drivers. It took her quite long to take the photo and even longer to show it to me afterwards, because the battery died. We turned round and passed the inhabited part of Pila where not a single person could be seen on the streets.

    fwbd6,15, Pila, Vista ostacolata sull‘acqua, olio su tela, 70 x 70 cm, Non riuscivo a parcheggiare perchè i camionisti mi venivano addosso lampeggiando o suonando il claxon e facendmi segno di „via, via“, appena ci provavo. Susanna era scesa con la sua macchina fotografica per salire sulla diga a fare una foto dell‘acqua del Po da lassù. Io intanto avanzavo un pezzetto alla volta sulla stretta stradina di ghiaia. Stette via a lungo, anche per avere la foto dovetti aspettare perchè le batterie erano scariche. Girammo e tornammo nella parte abitata di Pila, dove di nuovo non si vedeva anima viva.

    fwbd6,14, Pila, Öl auf Leinwand, 70 x 70 cm, 2016. Aus der gewünschten Kaffeepause im nächstbesten Dorf wurde nichts, weil das einzige Lokal, das wir in Pila sahen, geschlossen hatte. Es waren nirgends Menschen zu sehen. Im Weiterfahren kamen wir zu einer Firma, die in einem blauen Container untergebracht war, mit einem großen besetzten Parkplatz rundherum, ohne einen einzigen Freiraum, nur hin und herfahrende LKWs auf zwei sich kreuzenden Schotterstraßen.

When continuing without a coffee we  assed a company that was housed within a blue container surrounded by a big parking place packed with cars. The only sign of life were two big trucks moving along crossing gravel roads.

    fwbd6,14, Pila, olio su tela, 70 x 70 cm, 2016. La tanto desiderata pausa caffè nel prossimo paese non si fece, perchè l’unico baretto di Pila era chiuso. Non c’era anima viva. Proseguendo trovammo una ditta che resiedeva in un container blu, con un grande parcheggio strapieno tutto intorno, senza spazio libero, solo un viavai di camion su 2 strade di ghiaia che si incrociavano.

    fwbd6,13, Po, Flusslandschaft im Mündungsgebiet,Blaue Landschaft mit gelbem Feld, Öl auf Leinwand, 60 x 80 cm, 2015. Von der Stadt Adria aus fuhren wir die Strecke Richtung Flussmündung, durch den Regionalpark des Po-Deltas (Parco Regionale del Delta Po). Ich hatte die Vorstellung, dort irgendwo sehen zu können, wie das Wasser des Po ins Meer fließt, oder zumindest irgendwo einen Blick auf das Wasser des Flusses zu erhaschen, was wegen der hohen Aufschüttungen am Flussufer von der Straße aus nicht möglich ist. Einen Fußweg in diese Landschaft hinein gab es nicht.

From the city of Adria we took the road in the direction of the river mouth, through the Po-Delta Regional Park (Parco Regionale del Delta Po). I thought that I could see how the river Po flows into the sea, or at least catch the sight of the flowing river. The view was blocked however, through a big dam at the river bank without a single footpath leading to the river bank.

Dalla città di Adria prendemmo la strada verso la foce attraverso il Parco Regionale del Delta Po. Avevo l’idea di poter vedere in qualche modo come l’acqua del Po si congiungeva all’acqua del mare, o almeno poter sbirciare da qualche parte l’acqua del fiume, il che era impossibile dalla strada a causa della diga molto alta lungo la riva. Un sentiero che conducesse all’interno di quel paesaggio non c’era.
