fwbd50, Baumstämme, Öl auf Leinwand, 80 x 80 cm. Um mir einen Arbeitsweg zu erschaffen, gehe ich fast jeden Morgen zum Hilmteich und ein Stück in den Leechwald hinein. Irgendwann stellen sich die häufig gesehenen Baumstämme auf meinem nächsten Bild ein.

fwbd7,50, Trunks of trees, oil on canvas, 80 by 80 cm. To pick my way to my daily work, I walk to the Hilmteich every morning and a little further into the Leechwald. Eventually, the trunks of the trees, which I see every morning, appear in my painting.

fwbd7,50. Tronchi d’Alberi, olio su tela, 80 x 80 cm. Per creare un sentiero da lavoro quasi ogni giorno vado al lago, Hilmteich, e un pó più in là dentro il boschetto Leech. A un certo punto i tanti tronchi si meterializzano sul mio prossimo quadro.

fwbd7,53, Piazzale Montelungo, Flixbus. An der vierten Seite der Fortezza ist die breite Straße für die Busse, die „Piazzale Montelungo“, mit einer Baumreihe auf der Seite gegenüber der Festungsmauer, die als Messepalast in Verwendung ist. Bis dahin wäre mein Flixbus gegangen, den ich endlich auch einmal gebucht hatte, aber ich war wieder ausgestiegen, in dem Gefühl, es wäre besser, doch lieber hier zu bleiben. Nach Florenz fahren kann ich ja auch auf später verschieben.

On the fourth side of the Fortezza is the wide lane for the buses, the Piazzale Montelungo with a row of trees on the side opposite wall of the fortress, which is used as the trade fair palace. That is where the Flixbus, which I had finally booked for the first time, would have stopped, but I had got off again, feeling that it would be better to stay here. I can postpone going to Florence I said to myself.

Lungo il quarto lato della fortezza   si trova la strada larga per i Pullman,  piazzale Montelungo, con una fila di alberi di fronte al muro della fortezza che ospita fiere. Fin lì sarebbe arrivato il mio Flixbus che avevo finalmente prenotato, ma dentro di me sentivo che era meglio rimanere dove ero. Riscesi. La gita a Firenze la possiamo anche fare un’altra volta, pensai.

fwbd7,56, Zwei Lesende, Ich liebe es, mit jemandem im selben Raum zu sitzen, und einfach nur entspannt zu lesen. Das kommt in Wirklichkeit so selten vor, dass ich mir diese Situation malend erträume. In meiner Wirklichkeit war ich nach wie vor dabei, meine Bücher weiter auszulichten, um vierzehn in Zweierreihen vollgestellte Regale auf fünf zu reduzieren, indem ich die weiterzugebenden Bücher auf verschiedene Büchertauschplätze, die es in meiner Wohngegend im Uni-Viertel gibt, zu verteilen.

fwbd7,56, Two readers, oil on canvas, 50 by 50 cm. I love sitting in a room with someone and reading calmly. In reality this happens so rarely that I dream of this situation while painting. As a matter of fact, I was still sorting out my books in order to reduce fourteen shelves filled in two rows to five by taking the books to various book exchange points in my residential area in the university district.

fwbd7,56. Due  Lettori, olio su tela, 50 x 50 cm. Mi piace proprio tanto stare nella stessa stanza con un’altra persona e dedicarmi a una lettura rilassante. Capita molto di rado in realtà e così mi sogno una tale situazione dipingendo. Nella mia realtà continuavo a smistare i miei libri per ridurre le quattordici file doppie di libri a cinque, portando i libri scartati ai vari punti libri che si trovano nel mio quartiere vicino all’università.

fwbd7,62, Bergdorf x, bewohnte Hügelkuppe, 35 x70 cm. Auf der Abreise an einem Abend über die hügeligen Straßen, die streckenweise durch Wälder führte, hatten nirgendwo eine Ortstafel gesehen, und auch im Umfeld des überraschend entdeckten Lokals auf der Bergkuppe keine. Dass das Zimmerfenster keine Glasscheibe hatte, sahen wir erst in der Morgendämmerung. Ich steckte den Kopf durch den leeren Rahmen und sah von oben auf die Kronen einiger Laubbäume, die im Morgenlicht glänzten.

When leaving one evening, on the hilly roads which in parts led through forests, we had not seen a place name sign anywhere, neither near the restaurant which, to our surprise, we discovered on the hilltop. It wasn’t until dawn that we noticed that the window in our room had no glass. I stuck my head through the empty frame and looked down to the tops of the deciduous trees that were glistening in the morning light.

fwbd7,62. Paesino Montano x, Collina abitata, olio su tela, 35 x 70 cm. Sulla strada di ritorno attraverso le colline e anche qualche boschetto non avevamo visto cartelli indicanti un paese, neanche prima o dopo il locale sul cocuzzolo di una collina. Scoprimmo solo la mattina dopo che alla finestra della nostra camera mancava un vetro. Mi sporsi dal buco  e vidi da sopra il luccicchio del sole sul fogliame degli alberi.

fwbd7,66, In den Jahren mit dem Hund war es für mich großartig gewesen, den Hinterhofgarten benützen zu können. Meine einzelnen Tage dort waren unter anderem auch vom aktuellen Zustand der Pflanzen beeinflusst. Im März und April war alles dicht mit sattgrünem Bärlauch bewachsen, der Ende April weiß blühte, bevor er für die restlichen Monate des Jahres wieder ganz unter der Erde verschwunden war. Man müsste ihn also nicht mähen, aber wenn die Gräser rundherum schon so hoch waren, dass ich sie mähen musste, mähte ich auch zwischen dem Bärlauch einen Gehweg frei, und das ganze Haus roch zwei Tage lang stark nach Knoblauch.

fwbd7,66, Meadow and blooming wild garlic, oil on canvas, 60 x 90 cm, In the years when I had my dog, it was great for me to use the backyard. My days were influenced by the respective condition of the plants. In March and April, everything was densely overgrown with lush green wild garlic, which bloomed white at the end of April, before disappearing completely under the earth again for the remaining months of the year. Therefore I would not have needed to mow it, but when the grass around it was so high that I had to mow it, I also cleared a way across the wild garlic and the whole house smelled strongly of garlic for two days.

fwbd7,66. Prato con Aglio Orsino Fiorito, olio su tela, 60 x 90 cm.  Negli anni con il cane apprezzavo moltissimo il fatto di poter usare il giardino dietro la casa. I miei giorni lì erano influenzati tra l’altro anche dallo stato delle varie piante. In aprile e marzo tutto era coperto dal verde intenso dell’aglio orsino, che a fine aprile fioriva tutto bianco prima di ritirarsi sotto terra per il resto dell’anno. Non bisognerebbe tagliarlo ma quando l’erba intorno era troppo alta , tagliavo anche un sentiero attraverso l’aglio orsino e per due giorni tutta la casa profumava fortemente di aglio.

fwbd7,68,Zweimal im Jahr übernehme ich das Gießen der Balkonpflanzen bei Freunden, während sie unterwegs sind. Während ich im Jahr davor nur den Basilikumstock gemalt hatte, habe ich diesmal auch den Thymian näher betrachtet. Als Malgrund habe ich eine Platte aus Sperrholz verwendet, die nur einen halben Zentimeter dünn ist, so dass ich entweder eine Befestigungsvorrichtung an der Rückseite aufkleben könnte oder das Bild dann doch wieder in einen Rahmen gebe.

fwbd7,68, Basil and Thyme, oil on wood, 40 by 50 cm. Twice a year I undertake watering the balcony plants for friends while they are away. Whereas I had only painted the basil the year before, I also took a closer look at the thyme this year. I used a panel of plywood only half a centimetre thin so that I could either construct a fastening on the back of the picture or put it into a frame.

fwbd7,68. Basilico e Timo, olio su legno, 40 x 50 cm.  Due volte l’anno mi prendo l’incarico di annaffiare le piante sul balcone di amici mentre loro sono in vacanza. Mentre l’anno precedente avevo solo dipinto la pianta di basilico, questa volta guardai bene anche il timo. Come sfondo mi servii di una tavoletta di compensato, spessa solo mezzo centimetro in modo da poterci applicare un gancetto o anche metterla in una cornice.

fwbd7,69, Wohnungswechsel, Öl auf Leinwand, 60 x 70 cm. Inzwischen ist es für mich unvorstellbar, wie es sich anfühlt, immer in derselben Wohnung wohnen zu bleiben. Von den Anstrengungen des Übersiedelns abgesehen, sind meine kleinen Orts- und Situationswechsel die Voraussetzung für die zeitliche Struktur in meinem Gedächtnis, wie ich mich an Wen und an Was erinnere.

fwbd7,69, Change of address, oil on canvas, 60 x 70 cm. Meanwhile I cannot imagine what it feels like to always stay in the same apartment. Apart from the efforts of moving, my little changes of location and situation are essential for me and help me structure my memory, how I remember who and what.

fwbd7,69. Trasloco, olio su tela, 60 x 70 cm.  Ormai non riesco neanche a immaginarmi come sarebbe stare sempre nella stessa casa. A parte la fatica del trasloco, i miei cambiamenti di posti e situazioni determinano la struttura cronologica nella mia memoria, e chi e che cosa ricordo.

fwbd7,70, Stadtpassagen, Öl auf Leinwand, 60 x 80 cm. Meine Wohnungsbesichtigungen rufen verschiedene Einzelheiten rund um meine bisherigen Wohnungen wach. Die Hausnummer am Hohlweg war bemerkenswert, da es in der ganzen Straße nur zwei Häuser gab, nämlich Zwei und Neun. Möglicherweise standen dort früher einmal andere Häuser oder es waren zukünftige in Planung. Wenn ich nach abendlichen Ausgängen ein Taxi für den Rückweg nahm, musste ich jedesmal erst meine Adresse erklären. Zu Fuß konnte ich sehr praktische Abkürzungen nehmen, vom Felix-Dahn-Platz durch einen runden Torbogen zwischen einem Haus und einer Mauer, und ein Stück näher bei meiner Wohnstraße durch einen weiteren Fußgängerdurchgang zwischen zwei Gebäudeblöcken, hinter dem ein schmaler Gehweg leicht bergauf zu meinem Haus Nummer 9 führte.

fwbd7,70, Archways and passages, oil on canvas, 60 by 80 cm. My flat viewing tours brought up various details about previous apartments. The house number nine at the Hohlweg was remarkable as there where only two houses in that street, namely number two and nine. There might have been other houses in the past or there were plans to build some more in the future. Whenever I took a taxi back after going out in the evening, I always had to explain my address first. On foot, I could take very practical shortcuts from Felix-Dahn-Platz through a round archway between a house and a wall, and, a little closer to my residential street, through another pedestrian passage between two building blocks, behind which a narrow sidewalk led slightly uphill to my house number nine.

fwbd7,70.Passaggi Cittadini, olio su tela, 60 x 80 cm. Guardare case mi fa tornare in mente particolarità intorno alle mie case precedenti. Il numero civico nel Hohlweg era stupefacente, visto che c’erano solo due case in tutta la via, il numero due e il numero nove. Forse in un primo tempo ce n’erano state altre  o ne erano state progettate di più. Se la sera prendevo un taxi per tornare a casa dovevo sempre spiegare il perchè del mio indirizzo. A piedi potevo prendere delle scorciatoie molto comode. Da Piazza Felix Dahn attraverso un arco tra una casa e un muso, e un pò più vicino a casa c’era un passaggio pedonale tra due grandi blocchi di edifici, dietro i quali un sentiero portava su alla mia casa numero 9.

fwbd7,71, Ein paar Häuser weiter, Öl auf Leinwand, 50 x 60 cm. Die Wohnungssuche hat sich als sehr schwierig erwiesen, weil es überall irgendeinen Haken gegeben hatte, so dass ich nach der zweiundzwanzigsten Besichtigung über Möglichkeiten zur Zwischenlagerung aller meiner Sachen nachdachte. Meine neue Wohnung mit der passenden Atmosphäre zum Malen ist schließlich von meiner früheren nur ein paar Häuser entfernt, einfach an der nächsten Kreuzung, links.

fwbd7,71, A few doors down, oil on canvas, 50 x 60 cm. The apartment search turned out to be very difficult because there was some kind of hitch everywhere. After the twenty-second viewing I thought about the possibility of storing all my household contents temporarily. After all, my new apartment with the right atmosphere for painting is only a few houses away from my previous one, just at the next cross-roads on the left.

fwbd7,71, Qualche Casa in Là, olio su tela, 50 x 60 cm.  Cercare casa si è dimostrato difficile assai, perchè ogni casa aveva qualche svantaggio. Dopo 22 case cominciai a ponderare la possibilità di immagazzinare la mia roba. La mia nuova casa poi, con l’atmosfera adatta alla pittura  l’ho trovata solo a poca distanza da quella vecchia, subito al prossimo incrocio a sinistra.

fwbd7,72, Stadtfassade, Weihachtsbild, Ö auf Leinwand, 90 x 125 cm. Bis zu den Tagen vor Weihnachten war ich hauptsächlich damit beschäftigt, meine Bilder so zu ordnen, dass mir auch noch Raum zum Malen bleibt. Verglichen mit meiner Situation davor, habe ich derzeit nur halb so viel Platz, aber nach täglichem Ordnen über einen längeren Zeitraum, mit vielen Unterbrechungen, sieht es irgendwann einigermaßen gemütlich aus und gar nicht überfüllt. Ich habe freie Durchgänge zu Fenster und Türen, und kann zwei Staffeleien nebeneinanderstellen. An den Weihnachtstagen male ich in entspannter Stimmung an meinem nächsten Bild über die Via del Porcellana in Florenz. Die unterschiedlichen Rot- Schattierungen, mit einigen grünen Fenstern und Türen zwischen den Fassaden sind die Farben meiner Vorfreude, wenn ich mir im Malen ausdenke, welche Gassen und Plätze ich mir das nächste Mal genauer anschauen werde.

fwbd7,72, Facade, oil on canvas, 97 x 125 cm. Up until the days before Xmas I was mainly occupied with arranging my pictures in such a way that I had room to paint. Compared to my situation before, I currently have only half as much space, but after a long period of daily tidying up with lots of breaks, it finally looks reasonably comfortable and not at all overcrowded. I have free passages to windows and doors and I can put two easels next to each other. On the Days of Christmas, I am painting in a relaxed mood on my next picture about the Via del Porcellana in Florence. The different shades of red with some green windows and doors between the facades are the colours of my joyful imagination of which alleys and squares I will take a closer look at next time.

fwbd7,72. Natale 2020, olio su tela, 90 x 125 cm. I giorni prima di Natale ero occupata a sistemare i miei quadri per avere spazio per dipingere. Riguardo a prima ora ho a disposizione solo metà dello spazio, ma gli sforzi qiuotidiani di sistemare e raggruppare per un periodo abbastanza lungo con tante pause, hanno portato a una casa comoda e per niente sovraccarica.. Passaggi liberi verso finestra e porte e posto per due cavalletti uno vicino all’altro.  Durante i giorni di Natale mi dedico completamente rilassata al mio prossimo quadro Via del Porcellana a Firenze. Le varie sfumature di rosso con alcune finestre e porte verdi tra le facciate sono i colori della mia gioia anticipata mentre dipingendo decido quali viuzze e quali piazze mi guarderò più da vicino la prossima volta.
