fwbd7,30, Grazer Hauptplatz, Öl auf Holz, 20 x 29 cm. Wieder zurück in meinem Atelier, erwartet mich meine Arbeit. Ich hatte mir vorgenommen, eine Reihe von Bildern die ich vor längerer Zeit begonnen und für die Trocknungsdurchgänge immer wieder aus dem Blickfeld geräumt hatte, jetzt einmal fertig zu malen. Das kann aber bis zum nächsten Sommer dauern, weil besonders zeitintensive darunter sind, etwa die Grazer Hauptplatzbilder, an denen ich die weißen Fensterrahmen erst male, nachdem die Farbschichten darunter gut getrocknet sind.

fwbd7,30, Main square of Graz, horizontal, oil on cardboard within a wooden frame, 20 x 30 cm. Back in my studio, my work has awaited me. I intended to finish a series of pictures that I had begun quite some time ago and had repeatedly taken out of view for the drying process. However, finishing the pictures might take until next summer, because some of them are particularly time-consuming, such as my Main Square of Graz, in which I only paint the white window frames after the layers of colour underneath have dried well.

fwbd7,30. Hauptplatz di Graz, obliquo, olio su cartone in cornice di legno, 20 x 30 cm. Di ritorno nello studio mi aspetta il mio lavoro. Mi ero ripromessa di finire finalmente una serie di quadri che avevo cominciato tempo fa e messi via per le varie fasi di asciugatura. Sapevo che sarebbe stato un lavoro lungo, poteva andare avanti fino alla prossima estate perchè alcuni quadri richiedono molto tempo. Per esempio i quadri della piazza centrale di Graz, i cui strati di colore devono essere ben asciutti prima che potessi dipingere di bianco i telai delle finestre.

fwbd7,35, Domumrundung in Cremona. Öl auf Leinwand, 50 x 70 cm. Nach dem Auspacken fuhr, Cesare, unser Vermieter, in meinem Auto mit zum Parkplatz, der offiziell zu unserer Unterbringung gehörte. Die Via Santa Maria in Betlem war so weit entfernt, dass der Fußweg mit Gina, die auf Kälte sofort mit übermäßiger Verdauung reagierte, ziemlich lange dauerte. Vor allem war Signor Cesare irritiert von meinen Prozeduren mit den Sackerln, die seine Vorträge über Cremona mit Erklärungen zu jedem Bauwerk unterbrachen. Zu seiner Begrüßung neuer Gäste gehörte auch eine kurze Führung um den Dom. Er war an Besucher gewöhnt, die wegen der klassischen Musik kommen, und er legte uns infolge nahe, das aktuelle Konzert im Dom zu besuchen.

fwbd7,35, A tour around the cathedral, oil on canvas, 50 x 70 cm. After unpacking, Cesare, our host, drove my car to the parking lot, which officially belonged to our accommodation. Via Santa Maria in Betlem was so far away that it took a long time to walk back and difficult with Gina who reacted to the cold with indigestion. Above all, Signor Cesare was confused by my procedures with the bags, which interrupted his lectures on Cremona and explanations about every building. A short tour around the cathedral was part of his welcoming to new guests. He was used to visitors that come for classical music, and therefore he advised us to attend the current concert in the cathedral.

fwbd7,35. Intorno al Duomo, olio su tela, 50 x 70 cm.  Scaricati i bagagli, il nostro oste venne in macchina con noi fino al parcheggio che faceva ufficialmente parte del pacchetto. Via Santa Maria di Betlemme era talmente lontana, che il ritorno a piedi con Gina, che al freddo  reagisce immediatamente con un metabolismo eccessivo, durò parecchio. Il signor Cesare si mostrava notevolmente irritato dalla mia procedura dei vari sacchetti di plastica che interrompevano le sue spiegazioni dei vari monumenti. Il benvenuto ai suoi ospiti includeva anche un breve tour intorno al Duomo. Era abituato a visitatori che venivano per la musica classica e quindi ci propose di ascoltare il concerto attuale nel Duomo.

fwbd7,25,Hotel Autopark, Öl auf Leinwand,38 x 78 cm. Bei der Rückkehr ins Hotel Autopark Novoli, das genauso ist, wie der Name klingt, hatte ich die Vorstellung, wir würden kurz im Zimmer ausruhen, bevor wir wieder hinausgehen könnten. Wieder im Freien kam ich mit Gina bis in den Hotelpark, wo sie schon nach wenigen Schritten in Sitzstreik trat. Das Vormittagsprogramm war offenbar zu heftig gewesen. Da ist dann nichts zu machen.

When I returned to the hotel Autopark Novoli, which was exactly as it sounded, I had the idea that we would rest briefly in the room, before we could go out again. Outside then, we only got as far as the hotel park, where Gina went on a sit-down strike after just a few steps. The morning program had evidently been too intense. It couldn’t be helped.

fwbd7,25. Hotel Autopark, olio su tela, 38 x 76 cm. Al nostro ritorno all’albergo Autopark Novoli, che tra l’altro è proprio cosi come dice il suo nome, pensavo di poter riuscire dopo una breve pausa relax in camera.  Ma dopo alcuni passi nel parco dell’albergo Gina si mise seduta e non c’era piì verso di farla muovere. Il programma mattutino era stato troppo impegnativo, a quanto pareva. Pazienza.

fwbd7,38,Buehenraum, Öl auf Leinwand, 30 x 60 cm. An unserem Ankunftsabend war ich für ein paar Minuten im Dom, um diesen auch von innen zu besichtigen, und ich hätte mir auch das Konzert anhören können, das uns unser Vermieter so eindringlich empfohlen hatte. In dem allgemeinen Kommen und Gehen fiel es nicht auf, ob ein Einzelner wegen der Architektur oder wegen der Musik dort war.

fwbd7,38, On Stage, oil on canvas, 30 x 60 cm. On the evening of our arrival I went to the cathedral to take a look inside for a few minutes. I could also have listened to the concert that our host had recommended so emphatically. There was a constant coming and going and nobody could tell if people had come for the architecture or the music.

fwbd7,38. Palcoscenico. On Stage, olio su tela. 30 x 60 cm. La sera del nostro arrivo sono entrata nel Duomo per alcuni minuti per vederne anche l’interno e avrei anche potuto ascoltare il concerto che il nostro oste aveva tanto raccomandato. Nella confusione generale nessuno notava se una persona c’era entrata per l’architettura o per la musica.

fwbd7, 37,Via Beltrami, Öl auf Karton und Holz, 24 x 34 cm. Die Via Platina ein Stück bergab, im rechten Winkel nach rechts liegt die Via Beltrami, eine schmale lange Fußgängerstraße, sympathisch ruhig, zumindest war das während meiner beiden Aufenthalte zu jeder Tageszeit der Fall. Am Morgen nach der Ankunft, also am Samstagvormittag, machte ich mich mit meinen großen Bildertaschen auf den Weg zur Galerie. Wir waren die Einzigen in der Straße, auch beim nächsten Ankommen am Nachmittag.

Down Via Platina, at a right angle with it was Via Beltrami, a long narrow pedestrian street, pleasantly quiet at any time of the day, at least as was the case during my two stays. The morning after arriving, which was Saturday morning, I made my way to the gallery carrying my large picture bags. We were the only ones in the street, also when we next arrived in the afternoon.

Una traversa di Via Platina è Via Beltrami, una lunga strada, stretta, solo per pedoni, piacevolmente tranquilla, almeno durante i miei due soggiorni a qualsiasi ora della giornata. La mattina dopo il nostro arrivo, quindi sabato mattina, mi avviai verso la galleria  con i miei grandi borsoni di quadri. Eravamo gli unici per strada, anche al secondo soggiorno, di pomeriggio.

fwbd7,23, Via Guidoni, Rückweg, Öl auf Holz, 19 x 30 cm. Mit dem zweiten 22er Bus hatten wir Glück, er hielt näher in der Mitte, wo wir gewartet hatten. Der war gesteckt voll. Zu Fuß Richtung Zentrum waren wir ja fast immer nur geradeaus gegangen. Der Bus aber bog in verschiedene Straßen ab, was eine kurvige Strecke ergab. Ob mit oder ohne Haltegriff, ließen sich die Fahrgäste ganz selbstverständlich und gleichzeitig nach rechts und in der nächsten Kurve nach links schwingen. Mein Hund ist mitgerutscht und hat nur so geschaut. Wir sind nach meiner Schätzung der Anzahl der Stationen ausgestiegen, gesehen habe ich von drinnen nichts, aber an einer Station, an der viele Leute an die Ausstiege drängten, vermutete ich das Einkaufszentrum von heute Früh. Dass wir Schwarz gefahren sind, ist mir erst im Freien eingefallen. Ich wäre auch zu keinem Automaten durchgedrungen, um eine Karte zu lösen.

fwbd7,23, Via Guidoni, way back, oil on canvas, 14 x 108 cm. We were lucky with the second number 22 bus, it stopped closer to the middle, where we had been waiting. It was crowded. When walking to the centre, we had kept straight on, but now the bus turned into different streets, which resulted in a winding route. Whether the passengers were holding on to a handle or not, they were swinging quite naturally and simultaneously to the right and to the left, following the turns of the bus. My dog was slipping along with them and was just looking. We got off according to my estimate of the number of stops. I did not see anything from inside, but at a station, where many people were pushing towards the exits, I suspected the shopping centre from this morning. Only after we had got off, I realised that I had dodged the fare. I wouldn’t have got at a ticket machine anyway.

fwbd7,23. Via Guidoni, Via di Ritorno, olio su tela, 14 x 108 cm.  Con il secondo bus numero 22 fummo più fortunati, si fermò più vicino a noi. Era pieno zeppo.  Venendo al centro a piedi avevamo tirato quasi sempre diritto. Il bus però svoltava in varie stradine, il percorso era molto movimentato. Aggrappati o no , i passeggieri si lasciavano dondolare una volta a destra e poi a sinistra, in perfetta sincronia. Il mio cane si è adattato scivolando a occhi sgranati. Dopo un tot di fermate, grossolanamente calcolato alla cieca, scendemmo a una fermata dove scendevano in molti. Pensavo si potesse trattare del centro commerciale che avevamo visto la mattina. Che fossimo senza biglietto lo realizzai solo sul marciapiede. Sarebbe stato anche impossibile arrivare alla macchinetta per comprarne uno.

fwbd7, 39,Frühstück bei Cesare, 1, Öl auf Leinwand, 30 x 40 cm. Die Kälte in Cremona fühlte sich beißend an, so, dass jedes Hinausgehen nur mit einer einzelnen eiligen Erledigung verbunden war, und nach jedem Zurückkommen in unser Hotel, hatte ich mir zum Anwärmen einen Kaffee gekocht. Die Espressomaschine hatte dieselbe Größe wie meine, auch die unterschiedlich bunten Tassen, erinnerten mich an meinen eigenen Haushalt. Aus meinen zahlreichen Kaffeepausen entstand der Eindruck, ich hätte lange Zeit dort gewohnt.

fwbd7,39, Breakfast at Cesare’s, oil on canvas, 30 x 40 cm. The cold in Cremona felt sharp so that every time I went out, it was only for one singular hasty action. And every time I went back to our hotel, I made myself a hot cup of coffee. The espresso machine was the same size as mine, and the differently coloured cups reminded me of my own household. My numerous coffee breaks gave me the impression that I had been living there for a long time.

fwbd7,39. Colazione da Cesare, olio su tela, 30 x 40 cm. Il freddo a Cremona mordeva, quindi ogni uscita era solo per un‘ incombenza veloce e urgente e a ogni rientro mi facevo un caffè per scaldarmi. La macchinetta era grande come la mia, anche le tazzine di vari colori mi ricordavano casa mia. Le numerose pause caffè davano l’impressione di un soggiorno molto lungo.
