fwbd7,61, Mittlere Umwege, Öl auf Leinwand, 60 x 65 cm. Ausgehend von dieser Skizze von Vetulonia habe ich später ein Bild mit einigen architektonischen Details gemalt. Auch meine zwei Stiegen mit weißen Treppenkanten auf dem hellgrünen Grund sind von den Stufen in Vetulonia angeregt, wo die Straße und die Fassaden im selben steinernen Hellgrau waren. Von dort sind mir außerdem diese eigentümlichen Stufen im Gedächtnis geblieben, die nicht aufgebaut, sondern aus der steil ansteigenden Straße herausgehackt waren, um sie rutschsicher zu machen.

fwbd7,61, Walkabout in Vetulonia. Oil on canvas, 60 by 65 cm. Based on that sketch I made in Vetulonia, I later painted a picture of some architectural details. My steps are two white lines on a light-green background and were inspired by Vetulonia, where the street and the facades were the same light-grey of the stones. From there I also remembered those peculiar steps that were not set up but hacked out of the steeply rising street to make them slip-proof.

fwbd7,61. Deviazioni o Giro a Vetulonia, olio su tela, 60 x 65 cm. Partendo da quello schizzo di Vetulonia più tardi dipinsi un quadro con dettagli architettonici.  Anche le due scale con i bordi bianchi sullo sfondo verde chiaro si ispirano ai gradini di Vetulonia, dove strade e facciate erano dello stesso grigio pietra. Mi rimasero impressi anche i gradini strani, che non erano  murati ma scolpiti nella ripida stradina, per renderla meno scivolosa.

fwbd7,63, Auf meiner späteren Suche nach dem Namen des Ortes, den ich Bergdorf genannt hatte, fand ich diesen einfach nicht, aber es könnte sein, dass es in der Nähe von Civitella Paganico im Umraum von Grosseto war. In meinem verträumten Malen stellte ich mir das jedenfalls vor.

Later I searched for the name of the place that I had called „Bergdorf“ but just couldn’t find it, however, it could have been somewhere near Civitella Paganico, in the area of Grosseto. At least, that’s what I imagined in my dreamy painting.

fwbd7,63. Civitella Paganico, olio su tela, 50 x 60 cm. Quando molto più tardi mi misi a cercare il nome di quel posto che avevo chiamato paesino montano, non riuscì a trovare niente. Forse era  nei dintorni di Grosseto, nelle vicinanze di Civitella Paganico. Comunque era quello che mi immaginai dipingendo.

fwbd7,64, Ich dachte an mediterrane Felder im kräftigen Sonnenlicht, an den Hängen sanfter Hügel, mit einigen Häusern vor den Kuppen, zwischen hochwachsenden grünen Pflanzen und Bäumen, vielleicht Zypressen oder Oliven. Die Namen der einzelnen Dörfer klingen oft so einladend, dass ich unbedingt sehen will, wie es dort aussieht.

I was thinking of Mediterranean fields in the strong sunlight, on the slopes of gentle hills, with a few houses below the tops, between tall green plants and trees, maybe cypresses or olives. The names of particular villages often sound so inviting that I really want to see what it looks like there.

fwbd7,64. Battignano, olio su tela, 50 x 60 cm. Stavo pensando a campi mediterranei sotto la forte luce del sole, sui pendii delle dolci colline, con qualche casa in cima tra alte piante verdi e alberi , forse cipressi o olivi. I nomi dei vari paesini sono talmente invitanti che voglio assolutamente andare a vederli.

fwbd7,67, Inzwischen gibt es eine Reihe von Gründen, warum ich aus dieser mir allein viel zu großen Wohnung ausziehen will. Ich wartete noch auf die Bienen, während ich sie in Wirklichkeit in diesem Frühling schon versäumt hatte, wie ich von den Nachbarn im Nebengarten erfuhr. Aber immerhin waren noch einzelne Nachzügler am Werk, die ich im Geiste portraitiert habe, um sie im freudigen Malen die Hauptdarsteller auf meinem roten Bild werden zu lassen.

fwbd7,67, Spring meadow with two bees, oil on canvas, 58 x 58 cm. Meanwhile, there were a number of reasons why I wanted to move out of this much too large apartment. Yet, I was waiting for the bees, but in reality, I had already missed them this spring, as I learned from the neighbours in the next garden. But at least there were still some latecomers at work which I portrayed in my mind in order to let them be the main actors in my red picture in joyful painting.

fwbd7,67. Prato Primaverile con Api, olio su tela, 58 x 58 cm. Ormai ci sono tanti motivi per voler lasciare questa casa troppo grande per me sola. Aspettavo ancora le api mentre in realtà le avevo perse questa primavera, come ho saputo dai vicini. Comunque c’era al lavoro ancora qualche ritardataria che io ritrassi nella mia testa per poi farle apparire come protagoniste sul mio quadro rosso che dipingevo con grande gioia.

fwbd7,19, Via Cassia, Öl auf Leinwand, 50 x 60 cm. Nach dieser Straße ist nur die Haltestelle benannt, aber wir sind noch immer auf der Piazza di San Jacopino, mit dem winzigen Grünstreifen. Auf dem Plan hatte ich gesehen, dass am Ende der Via Cassia schon das Einzugsgebiet des Bahnhofs beginnt, und ab irgendeiner Straßenhöhe hatte Gina plötzlich auf normales Tempo umgeschaltet. Das bedeutet immer, dass wir hier schon einmal gewesen sind, also schon nahe an unserem Ziel. Für die einfachere Orientierung, auch weil die Busstrecke so verläuft, hatte ich zunächst den Bahnhof angesteuert.

fwbd7,19, Via Cassia, oil on canvas, 50 x 60 cm. Only the bus stop is named after this street, but we are still on the Piazza San Jacopino, with the tiny stripe of greenery. On the map I had seen that right at the end of Via Cassia were the train station premises, and suddenly, Gina switched to normal speed which meant that we had been there before and thus were close to our destination. To find the way more easily and because the bus route runs like this, I had first headed for the train station.

fwbd7,19. Via Cassia, olio su tela, 50 x 60 cm.  Questa strada presta il nome alla fermata, ma siamo sempre in Piazza di San Jacopino, con la minuscola aiuola. Sulla pianta avevo notato che in fondo a Via Cassia comincia già la zona della stazione e tutt ad un tratto Gina cambiò marcia. Un segno che c’eravamo già stati, molto prossimi alla meta. Per orientarmi meglio avevo seguito la linea del bus verso la stazione.

fwbd7,26,Hotel Autopark, Balkonsitzung, Öl auf Leinwand, 60 x 60 cm . Das kleine Hotelzimmer war im sechsten Stock, und da saß ich dann, und Gina schlief und schlief, außer wenn ich die Tür zum Balkon öffnete, um dort eine Zigarette zu rauchen. Der Balkon war zum Fürchten, mit seiner Schräglage nach außen und den viel zu breit gesetzten Gitterstäben ohne Blickschutz. Ich setzte mich auf den Balkonboden und sperrte mit dem Rücken den Türspalt ab.

fwbd7,26, Balcony sitting at the Hotel Autopark. Oil on canvas, 60 x 60 cm. The little hotel room was on the sixth floor, and that’s where I sat, and Gina slept on and on, except when I opened the door to the balcony to smoke a cigarette. The balcony was frightful, it was sloping outward and the bars were much too wide apart and had no visual cover. I sat down on the balcony floor and blocked the ajar door with my back.

fwbd7,26. Hotel Autopark, Seduta sul Balcone, olio su tela, 60 x 60 cm. La piccola stanza si trovava al sesto piano, e io seduta lì, mentre Gina dormiva e dormiva a meno che quando aprivo la portafinestra sul balcone per fumarci una sigaretta. Il balcone incuteva terrore, pendente in fuori con i paletti della ringhiera troppo distanti tra di loro, senza telone protettivo..Mi misi seduta per terra bloccando con la schiena lo spiraglio aperto della portafinestra.

fwbd7,20, Unterführung, Öl auf Leinwand, 60 x 80 cm. In der Nähe des Bahnhofs mussten wir durch eine staubige Unterführung, und ich konzentrierte mich darauf, das Vorstellungsbild, wie über unseren Köpfen gerade ein Zug fährt, zu verscheuchen. Das war nicht so einfach wie später vor der Staffelei. Da kann ich mir eine Fernsicht auf diese Unterführung ausmalen, die dann so aussieht, als wäre das Gebilde über uns eine Brücke, über der man vor dem weiten Horizont auf die weit dahinterliegenden Häuserreihen schauen kann. In der realen Situation kamen wir am Ende der Unterführung auf der Haupteingangsseite des Bahnhofs heraus, der jetzt rechts von uns lag.

fwbd7,20, Subway, oil on canvas, 60 x 80 cm. We had to go through a dusty pedestrian subway near the train station, and I concentrated on shaking off the image of a train passing overhead. It wasn’t as easy as it was standing in front of the easel. Here I can imagine a distant view of this underpass which then looks like a bridge, and of rows of houses far behind, in front of the wide horizon. In real, we emerged from the underpass next to the main entrance of the train station, which was now to our right.

fwbd7,20, Sottopassagio, olio su tela, 60 x 80 cm. Nelle vicinanze della stazione,  in  un sottopassaggio pieno di polvere,  cercai di eliminare dalla mia testa l’immagine del treno che stava passando sopra di noi. Non fu così facile come più tardi davanti al cavalletto. quando potevo immaginare una vista da lontano . Il sottopassaggio sembra un ponte sopra il quale si apre lo sguardo sulle case davanti al lontano orizzonte. In realtà uscimmo dal sottopassaggio proprio davanti all’ingresso principale della stazione che si trovava alla nostra destra.

fwbd7,05, Stadtebenen, Öl auf Leinwand, 100 x 120 cm. Im Zuge eines Auftrages habe ich ein früheres Bild in einem großen Format für mein eigenes Repertoire ausgeführt. Dazu musste ich mich nicht verbiegen, weil das gleiche Bild in mehreren Formaten für andere Auftraggeber davor schon ausgeführt hatte, und es passte genau zwischen die beiden Holzläden der Fenster im Atelierraum, die ich tagsüber aufgeklappt hatte, sodass sie wie seitliche Rahmen zu dem Bild wirkten.

fwbd7,05, Town-levels, x- large, oil on canvas, 100 x 160 cm. In the course of a commission, I made an earlier painting in a large format for my own repertoire. I didn’t have to bend over backwards as I had already painted the same image in different formats for other clients, and it fitted exactly between the two wooden shutters of the windows in the studio room, which I had opened during the day, so that they looked like two lateral frames.

fwbd7,05. Strati di Città, x-large, olio su tela, 100 x160 cm. Lavorando per una commissione  eseguii in formato grande un vecchio quadro per il mio repertorio. Non dovevo faticare perchè lo stesso quadro l’avevo già eseguito per altri committenti in vari formati. Stava giusto giusto tra le imposte di legno della finestra dello studio, che di giorno erano spalancate e gli facevano da cornici laterali.

fwbd7,24, Via di Novoli, Öl auf Leinwand, 60 x 80 cm. Gegenüber unserer Ausstiegsstelle, gab es ein kleines Tagescafé, das „Smile di Colomo Ilenia“ hieß, ein viel zu langer Name, der unrund klingt, aber es hatte eine sympathische Atmosphäre. Zu meinem Kaffee bestellte ich mir eines der Sandwiches, aus dem ich sicherheitshalber die Tomatenscheibe und den Käse entfernte. Also kann ich davon nicht meine Unverträglichkeitsstörung bekommen haben, wohl aber von den Knabbereien davor in der Galerie. Hinterher bin ich immer gescheiter.

Opposite the bus stop, there was the small daytime coffee „Smile di Colomo Ilenia“, a name that was much too long and sounded out of round, but it had a pleasant atmosphere. With my coffee I ordered a sandwich and removed the tomato and cheese, just to be on the safe side. At least they could not be the cause for the condition due to my food intolerance, however the crackers I ate in the gallery before could. Afterwards I am always wiser.

fwbd7,24. Via di Novoli, olio su tela, 60 x 80 cm, 2017. Di fronte alla fermata c’era un piccolo Bar, lo „Smile di Colomo Ilenia“, un nome troppo lungo, suonava anche male, ma emanava un‘ atmosfera simpatica.  Con il mio caffè ordinai anche un panino dal quale, per sicurezza, tolsi il pomodoro e il formaggio. Quindi non poteva essere  il motivo per i miei disturbi intestinali, ma saranno state le noccioline alla mostra. Col senno di poi…
